Pontoon Boats Popular for Fishing and Relaxing
The angler usually has a choice
between four different pontoon boats. Among these four types there is a
wide variety in both look and options among the various manufacturers.
Depending on how you intend to use your pontoon boat, each will come
with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. You want to carefully
consider what type of fly fishing you will be doing and what type of
water you will be in prior to running down to your local fishing or
boating store. Since some models can be very heavy, you will also want
to think about when and for what distances you will need to haul your
boat. You want a boat that is classified for whitewater if you will be
using it in rivers with Class III or VI rapids. Many models are designed
for quiet lakes and rivers and can not stand up to the harsh treatment
of the rapids. The pontoon boats of today usually come with a frame of
either aluminum or powder coated steel. Since aluminum is lighter it
tends to be more popular.
Standard One Person Pontoon Boat
These pontoon boats are definitely the most popular model on the market
these days. The weight capacity of these boats usually ranges from 250
to 400 pounds. Depending on the unique features and frame construction
the price tags for these boats can range dramatically. Higher end boats
are available with either steel or aluminum frames and often feature a
standing platform for easier casting.
Two Person Pontoon Boat
This boat is much heaver than the single person pontoon boat as it is
very large and has been designed to accommodate two people. This boat is
also much more expensive than the simple person pontoon boat. The size
of these boats can make them very difficult to assemble, which means
that the average person will not want to take them apart until they are
ready to put them in long term storage. You will really appreciate
having a trailer to lug this heavy boat to your favorite fishing hideout
due to both its weight and its size.
The Packable Pontoon Boat
These boats have become increasingly popular over the last few years
thanks to the fact that they are small, light, and easy to assemble.
Recent advances in technology have made it possible for manufacturers to
offer a greater selection of these boats which just a few years ago were
often almost impossible to find. One of the best advantages of these
boats is that you can bring them to your favorite backcountry lake as
they are light and easily pack into a small bag or backpack.
The Kick Boat
In this type of boat the angler is suspended over two inflatable
pontoons with their feet in the water. The angler uses his feet which
are wearing fins to propel the boat around. These boats are easy to
bring into remote areas because they are so light and packable. The down
side to this type of boat is that they often require great physical
exertion from the angler. Lakes and slow moving rivers are the best
places to use this type of boat.
Those anglers who have tried fishing from a pontoon boat are almost sure
to upgrade from their float tube, as there is really no comparison. Some
of the advantages of using a pontoon boat are the ability to fish later
in the season once the water has turned colder, easier movement around
the lake or river, and much easier casting. Many models of pontoon boat
also come with an optional motor mount and battery tray.
