What is a downrigger?

A Downrigger is a trolling rig consisting of a weighted cable attached beneath the vessel to a fishing line. Downriggers are used to troll live bait at or near the bottom of the lake, river, or seas.  Anglers all over the country have been changed by the use of Downriggers. They permit you the ability to place your lure at the right place, taking the out the guesswork from fishing. By using a downrigger and sonar, you simply place your lure where the fish are.  There are several verities of downriggers. The type of downrigger you will need is determined by the depth of the water you will be fishing. The most popular downrigger is the full-size manual, which offers affordability, and operation as well as installation. The full-size can handle downriggers weighting up to 12 pounds.
